Wednesday opens with warm, humid air over much of Texas, while a developing disturbance promises a more active stretch for parts of the state late Thursday into Friday. The National Weather Service says the greatest heavy-rain concern is focused on portions of West Central and Southwest Texas.

Around Austin, San Antonio and the Hill Country, spotty showers and an isolated thunderstorm are possible Wednesday. Forecasters at NWS Austin/San Antonio identify a more concentrated heavy-rain threat Thursday into Friday along the Rio Grande and southern Edwards Plateau, especially toward Val Verde County. Rainfall could reach 1 to 2 inches there, with isolated higher amounts. That is not a statewide forecast.

North Texas remains warmer than normal through Thursday, according to NWS Fort Worth. A better opportunity for showers and thunderstorms develops late Thursday through Saturday, along with somewhat cooler conditions. The exact placement of storms remains uncertain.

Farther west, NWS San Angelo highlights a heavy-rain threat west of a Sonora–San Angelo–Sweetwater line from Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. NWS El Paso expects rain to return Thursday evening into the weekend, with some storms capable of localized flooding.

Along the upper Gulf Coast, the Houston/Galveston office expects scattered showers Wednesday, a brief reduction Thursday and renewed rain chances Friday into the weekend. The Corpus Christi office notes minor coastal flooding around high tide and an elevated rip-current risk, while the most significant rain potential shifts toward the Brush Country and Rio Grande Plains Thursday.

Tonight, increasing moisture and clouds will set the stage for Thursday’s changes in western areas. Looking toward Halloween, South Texas forecasters expect conditions to improve by Saturday evening; elsewhere, the timing of lingering showers will need another look as updated forecasts arrive.

A possible front early next week could bring a cooler air mass to parts of Central and South Texas. For East Texas and other locations not specifically discussed here, consult the latest local NWS forecast rather than treating this regional overview as a site-specific prediction.
