A severe thunderstorm risk is in place Saturday, October 24, across portions of New Mexico and far West Texas. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center outlook highlights the possibility of large hail, damaging thunderstorm winds, and an isolated tornado in the risk area.

The setup involves an approaching upper-level disturbance and increasing moisture. Stronger storms may develop during the afternoon and evening, when daytime heating and atmospheric instability are greatest. Some storms could organize into rotating supercells before activity becomes more clustered.

The Storm Prediction Center identified a Slight Risk, level 2 of 5, for parts of the region in its early Saturday outlook. That classification does not mean severe weather will occur at every location. Threat levels and timing can change as new forecasts are issued.

Residents and travelers in the affected areas should monitor local National Weather Service alerts and have a way to receive warnings. A tornado warning means take shelter immediately; a severe thunderstorm warning calls for protection from dangerous wind and hail. This report describes the October 24 outlook, not a continuously updated live warning list.
