TEXAS HOMEOWNERS: WHAT THE ELECTION DOES — AND DOES NOT — CHANGE
Election results may change future tax debates, but existing homestead rules and property-tax bills do not automatically change overnight.
Texas voters chose new statewide leadership and a different state House majority. That could alter the political debate over school funding, local taxes and homeowner relief.
For now, a change in party control does not repeal a homestead exemption, reset an appraisal cap or impose a new tax. Those outcomes require specific legal steps, and some changes would require voter approval.
Homeowners should continue following their county appraisal district’s deadlines and read any future legislation before assuming their bills will rise or fall.
