TEXAS POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE! ABBOTT DEFEATED IN GOVERNOR RACE
Gina Hinojosa defeats Greg Abbott as Texas voters change course in a historic statewide election.
Texas voters delivered a dramatic change in the governor’s race Tuesday, with Democrat Gina Hinojosa defeating Republican incumbent Greg Abbott, according to Associated Press election reporting.
The result ends a long period of Republican control of the governor’s office and places major questions about taxes, border policy, energy, education and state spending before a new administration.
The governor’s office is only one part of state government. The Legislature, courts and other statewide offices will determine how much policy can change. Election results and margins may continue to be updated as votes are certified.
