Tesla Cybertruck Production to Wind Down in Texas: What Happens Next

November 7, 2026 · Texas News Studio

Tesla’s angular electric pickup is approaching a major turning point. Reports from Reuters and the Associated Press say CEO Elon Musk plans to wind down Cybertruck production at Tesla’s Texas Gigafactory around mid-2027.

The decision would free factory capacity for Cybercab, Tesla’s autonomous vehicle project. The shift follows sales that fell far short of the company’s early ambitions. Kelley Blue Book estimates cited by AP put 2025 U.S. Cybertruck sales at roughly 20,237 vehicles.

For Texas, the question is not simply whether an unusual pickup disappears. It is how Tesla reallocates manufacturing capacity at its Austin-area plant, what the Cybercab transition will mean, and whether the company can turn its autonomous-vehicle plans into a sustainable business.

The announced wind-down does not establish that every existing Cybertruck will be taken off the road. Owners should follow Tesla’s official notices for service, recalls and support.
