Electricity demand forecasts are increasingly important in Texas as large industrial facilities and computing campuses seek power connections. A request to connect to the grid is not the same as a completed, operating project.

New demand can require transmission lines, substations and generation resources. ERCOT studies system needs, while utilities and regulators have separate roles in delivering infrastructure.

For useful local reporting, compare proposed megawatts with approved interconnection milestones, construction schedules and actual usage when available. Avoid treating every announced project as certain to open.
